Future Forest

In 2018, in Mexico City, I was inspired to find a way to utilize the vast amounts of plastic waste from everyday items that are filling up the oceans and hurting our planet. I came up with the idea to create an entire forest made from plastic waste.

Joined by ‘Pepenadores’ (the heroes who collect and sort through our trash every day), their children, over 700 students, an orphanage, an elderly home, and a team of more than 100 volunteers, we transformed 3 tons of plastic waste into a 500m2 forest. We made a colorful landscape filled with trees, plants, flowers, and animals, meaning hope and life.

Future Forest was made as part of the annual flower festival FYJA, and was in the botanical garden of Chapultepec.
